Very Rare and original, 1863 CDV Photograph of President Abraham Lincoln by Alexander Gardner taken on November 8th, 1863. This very rare Portrait is designated as \"O-79\" by Ostendorf.
The Photo pictures Abraham Lincoln seated in a chair from the House of Representatives that Gardner used in his studio. The President\'s hand rests on a draped table and although his body faces slightly to the left, his head is turned to the right. The bottom of the Image itself carries a facsimile signature of Abraham Lincoln in the negative.
The Photograph itself measures approx. 2 1/4” x 3 5/8” and is mounted on its original, square corner, gold rule border CDV Card Mount (overall size of card is 2 1/2” x 4”). The mount is blank backed. This is a pirated Image published in the 1860\'s with some retouching and with some added, engraved embellishment to Lincoln\'s clothing.
This original, period, CDV Photograph of Abraham Lincoln is in very good to excellent condition - the Image exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. The Photo is clean and crisp and very well preserved while the mount has some scuffing and light edge wear.
A very rare and original example of the O-79 Abraham Lincoln portrait taken by Alexander Gardner on November 8th, 1863 and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
