1860's Civil War Period Ambrotype Photo Of Musicians In Military Style Uniforms For Sale
Rare and original, 1860's, Cased Ambrotype Photograph of two Civil War period Musicians (possibly Union Military). This wonderful, 1/6 plate size, Ambrotype Photo measures approx. 2 1/2" by 3 1/8" and is housed in one half of a floral patter, thermoplastic / gutta percha case.
The Ambrotype depicts two musicians in uniform- one playing a fife and the other holding what appears to be a swagger stick. Both men wear pants with stripes down the sides of their legs but there jackets do not appear to be military. The Image was sold to us as a military image but we are not convinced that the uniforms they wear relate to an Army unit.
The Image is not identified in any way and while we cannot give any concrete evidence of the identity or the affiliation of the Musicians, we offer it here as simply a very nice, Civil War period Ambrotype Photograph as pictured below.
This rare and original, 1860's, Ambrotype Photo is in very good condition. The Image exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. The surface is stable and sound with no significant scratches, flaking, surface damage, or surface crazing of any kind. There are 2 or three miniscule surface blemishes (you need a loupe to make them out) but otherwise the Image is exceptionally well preserved. As stated above, the image is housed in one half of thermoplastic / gutta percha case. The Case is brown in color and the half that is present is in very good condition with sharp corners and no chips, cracks, breaks, repairs or damage of any kind. The two hinges are present but the case lacks the second half.
A rare and very attractive, 1860's Civil War period Ambrotype Photograph of two Musicians in uniform and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
