Here is a rare find for you--a textured silk opera cape from the 1800s. It is a beautiful bronze color with black patterns on the outside. The fabric appears to be a type of Cisele Velvet, where the silk is the ground fabric and the raised pattern is velvet. On the outside with the black velvet floral pattern, the silk has a texture to it. The inside of the cape is lined in smooth soft silk in a rose-copper color. It is stunning and would make a wonderful addition to your wardrobe if you like to dress up in the unusual or in vintage clothing! You can just imagine yourself being in the movie, Phantom of the Opera, with this beautiful cape.If you are a collector of vintage clothing, it would make a beautiful addition to your collection. I believe it is museum quality.The collar is raised and slightly pleated and ruffled in such a beautiful, elegant way around the neck. There is no closure in the front--it was meant to be a wrap style cape. Or closed with a beautiful old brooch that you would provide. There is a cord loop at the neck for hanging, but I would urge you to hang this on a soft or padded hanger instead, to take good care of it.There are two tiny holes in the outside fabric on the left side, which are not noticeable at all because of the low position on the cape and because of the pretty folds of the cape. There are two tiny black marks on the lining as well. There is some slight speckled fading to the fabric on the lining. All very minor flaws considering the age of the cape and not really noticeable. I have not ironed or steamed the cape which is why you see the slight wrinkles in the fabric, which can be easily steamed out. I have left it in its original condition.Measurements: The cape is longer in the front where the beautiful velvet florals are and it tapers as it goes around the back. From the neck to the bottom in the front, it measures about 36 inches. At the back it measures about 25 inches from the neck down.
