Up for sale is a gorgeous Civil War-era Victorian-style near-miniature gift book, entitled GIFT of LOVE, by William B. Tappan. Published in Boston by G.W. Cottrell. No date, but Christmas 1862 gift inscription pencilled on flyleaf.

Very small, at 3\" x 4-5/8\", bound in pebbled red cloth with elaborate gilt decoration of wreath surrounding title on front cover. Foliage and Grecian architectural motif gilded on spine.

All page edges brightly gilded.

A portable, inspirational collection of poems by Tappan, who headed the American Sunday School Union, and later became an ordained Congregational minister.

Book in Very Good Plus condition.
