Here we offer a rare and unusual Civil War relic: the January throughJune, 1862 collection of Punch Almanacks, published in London. Theseare the actual magazines bound together at the end of the year as was a commonpractice at the time. Punch was a political humor magazine with socialcommentary, and was densely filled with large, interesting cartoons. As1862 marked a crucial year of the Civil War, this collection features manylarge Civil War-themed political cartoons, including several images of Lincoln.The Britslooked on the war as a savage expression of Northern dominance,so these are cartoonslampooning America, cynical of Lincoln, sympatheticto the South. This binding is for an individual\'s private library, with 3/4 leather, marbled boards, and recut, speckled page edges.

Sturdy boards have wear, (please see pics;) binding is in excellent shape, very square and firm, with intact endpages and period bookplate. Very bright and crisp illustrations and text on high quality pulp; minor foxing and wrinkling. Approximately 10.5 x 8.5-inches, 257 indexed pages.
