I have here for sale a beautifully illustrated book entitled THE ART JOURNAL 1862. Published in 1862 by James S Virtue. Dedicated to the memory of His Royal Highness the Prince Consort Albert, who had just died. This is the 1st volume of the new series and will be the 24th Volume since its inception (although this is not stated). It contains 28 full page plates (only 24 mentioned in the index) and hundreds of woodcuts in the text.

Up to page 244 is the regular Art Journal, and the remaining 208 pages are the Art Journal Illustrated International Catalogue.

Quarter bound in black leather with gilt decorated hardboards, with black and gilt title and decoration on the spine; five raised bands on the spine, marbled edged pages. Both boards are firmly attached and no pages loose or missing, 32 cm by 25 cm.
