This is a wonderful, original letter dated 1863, Camp Kearney, Louisiana, where Sextus Goddard of the 53rd Massachusetts Infantry has written home regarding his getting over sickness,many men in the regiment are sick, mosquitoes as big as butterflies and the water is rising...a four page letter, 6x9, pencil, overall good condition.

Sextus P. GoddardResidence Petersham MA; a 26 year-old Farmer.Enlisted on 9/15/1862 as a Private.

On 10/17/1862 he mustered into \"F\" Co. MA 53rd Infantry He was Mustered Out on 9/2/1863 at Camp Stevens, Groton, MA.
