Description This is a very nice and quite unusual 1863 Civil War \"Storecard\" token from the \"Yankee Robinson\" traveling Circus.
Fayatte Ludovic \"Yankee\" Robinson was born in 1818 in Avon, New York. A showman born, he was using the \"Yankee\" nickname that he said had been hung on him because of his Eastern accent by 1852. His traveling tent show had its ups and downs. He had to leave Charleston, South Carolina in a hurry in 1859 because they were not happy with a comedian named Yankee who performed \"Uncle Tom\'s Cabin\" as part of his show. More below...

1861 was a disastrous year for the circus but Yankee went to a New York farmer named Scott and with his new partner went out on the road again. The war had come, people were looking for the release a circus affords and they started making money hand over fist. \"Yankee\" Robinson, once a famous name, passed away in 1884.
Reverse: YANKEE ROBINSON • BIG SHOW • Smaller PAST - PRESENT - FUTURE around triangle • Hand, 1863, and TRIAD within.
The Token: A lightly used piece, it has a few small marks and dings, but the color is original, it has not been cleaned. A very nice and scarce, Civil War Token. As grading is subjective please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
