The 12th Regiment, Maine Infantry was organized at Portland, and mustered in November 20, 1861.
They mustered out December 7, 1864.
The Non-Veterans left front November 19, and mustered out December 7, 1864. The Veterans consolidated to a Battalion of four Companies[1]
Companies A, B, C and D of the 12th Maine Regiment became part of the Battalion Twelfth Regiment Infantry. Also the two and three year men of Companies E, F, G, H, I and K of the 12th Maine. The Battalion 12th was mustered out of the service April 18, 1866 at Savannah, Georgia[2].
