Description:

This is an original, genuine and authentic Civil War cover mailed to George A. Huron, Q.M. Serg\'t 7th Indiana (Infantry) Reg\'t., 1st Brigade, 4th Division, 5th Corps, Army of Potomac.  It was postmarked at Battleground, Ind. on Aug. 22, (1864) and an exceptionally nice, target bullseye canceled Sc.#65, 3c Washington issue stamp is affixed.  The reverse flap is intact and sealed, the cover having been slit open at the left side with a reduction.  The cover is in postally used condition as pictured in the images with the two upper corners frayed and the stamp is affixed loosely.

Quartermaster Sergeant Huron enlisted in the Union Army in August of 1861.  His unit saw action at Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor and the Siege of Petersburg (where his unit was probably engaged at the time of the mailing of this cover) among others during his service.  He was mustered out in September of 1864, went to Law School in Washington DC and moved to Kansas where he became a judge and practiced law in Topeka until his death in 1927.  This fancy canceled cover will be a very good addition to a Civil War collection as well a Tippecanoe County, Indiana postal history collection.

The winning buyer pays $1.00 toward USPS shipping and a foreign buyer pays the actual costs of 1st class airmail shipping. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding the condition of this cover, payment or shipping for it.  Payment is expected within three calendar days of the sale\'s ending date unless other prior arrangements have been made.
