This is an original handwritten Civil Warletter which sent from “La Port” dated May 12th, 1864 by Charles B.Davis to his sister. I believe thisletter was sent from LaPorte, Colorado where the writer was engaged in mining. This letter is four pages with one page beingblank. This letter has Civil War relatedcontent and reads in part:

bloodywork going on in the east my prayer (?) is that Grant may be victorious andmake every traitor find a bloody grave.There are plenty of them here. Therewas a fight between one here last night and a union man pistols where used butneither much damaged. There is nothing thatwould be too bad for the men that caused this war that has caused the people ofthe North and South to mourn for the loss of dear friends and relatives….I haverambled around so much that I do not think I could content myself to settle in theEastern states and money matters would hardly justify me in making a visit…YoursSincerely Charles B. Davis

This is the letter only with no envelope but the letter is fullycomplete and well intact with a bit ofseparation on the fold lines in places and a short tear on one edge. The handwriting is legible throughout. Overall condition is very good with greatcontent relating both to Colorado mining and opinions about the Civil Warraging in the east. Email anyquestions.
