Photograph shows a Union army guard and other men in frontof a building designated Price, Birch & Co., Dealers in Slaves, at 1315Duke St., Alexandria, VA. Before that, the premises were owned by theslave-trading firm Franklin & Armfield. The Union army used the formerslave jail to house Confederate prisoners.
