LIFE OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN: By J. G. Holland. Published by Gurdon Bill. Springfield, Massachusetts. 1866. 6" x 9". Three quarter leather. Marbled edges and endpapers. 544 pages+ publisher ads. Engravings with tissue guards.

CONDITION: Very Good especially considering its age. . Some wear to the leather binding. Internally, there are spots of foxing to the frontis. Text pages are bright white.

THE LONG ISLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY The Long Island Historical Society was founded in 1863. At that time, the city of Brooklyn was the commercial and cultural center of Long Island and it actively sought out private collections of early Americana.

In 1993, new leadership changed the name to The Brooklyn Historical Society as a museum and education center. The directors decided to divest all of the book collections that had been donated over its 150 years and retain only Brooklyn-related materials.
