1870s Italian ? French? 29\" tall \"sweetheart\" STEREOSCOPE stereoviewer This is a viewer that if restored would be quite spectacular! About 15 years ago i recall seeing a viewer in Europe that sold for $7500 that looked similar in body design as this one but do not recall who they attributed to being the maker. I am quite sure it was an Italian or France name but I cannot find that viewer or on this one find any name. This viewer when I got it had a good amount of \"single full size glass stereoviews\" from Ferrier & Soulier in the holders where someone had removed the cover glass to get them to fit in the holders. Most likely this is what caused the belt to strain so hard from the weight over time which eventually wore apart. There are a total of 117 holders so with this being a sweetheart viewer means that right now someone could have it restored without adding more holders and could have 234 stereoviews in it. None are included but viewers that had this many holders typically would have a nice selection of stereoviews. The viewer stands close to 29\" tall and the base would be 12\" x 14\" so is a nice size viewer. It needs restored obviously but as is right now looks nice just standing. There is a nice ornate head on each side as well as 2 wood handle parts both about 1/2 way down the body on the sides. It has 2 eye pieces with lens, 1 eye piece with ni lens and the 3rd one missing. The top lids that open have mirrors when opened. The one is cracked as well as being loose from the mount screws so comes completely off since it is missing some wood for the screw to go into as well as some molding pieces on the top. There are some other parts of the body along the bottom with slight gaps from age but still pretty solid so stands good. The handle on the left needs a rusty pin to go thru a tiny hole and bent to hold it on which is an easy fix. Without that pin/screw/nail in the hole you can take the handle knob off the left and the slide the whole rod out which is great if you are going to redo the belt. Inside the viewer towards the bottom you can see the other thicker rod that the belt would go around so it is close if you are going to redo the belt to get it to work. The belt could easily be replaced in a day once you get the new material. The original one they nailed thru the fabric into the bottom of the card holders and they are lined up pretty much right next to each other. Since it had fallen apart but has 117 holders, the unknown is how many holders it could have had originally or would be at full capacity. Even if you made the belt without adding any missing holders you would still have a great viewer with 234 views in it , back to back. The most interesting function this has to me I saved for mentioning here at the end and is the BRASS rails that each lens unit can slide out and then in for focusing on each side. This if you looked closely will realize this was not some homemade cheap thing to do but done by a company who made the parts from brass for making viewers. The lens unit slide in & out by holding the viewer but need some TLC , oil, adjustments to make sliding in & out easier. I don\'t restore viewers but this one would be one to do. I could just see the body sanded & restained and how nice it will look like the one I saw 15 years ago. The ornate wood decorative pieces on the outside I am not sure who they represent but if someone knows please message me so I can add that info to the listing. Packing is a very large box & with weight & size postage is not cheap but is thru the post office. If you want to pickup & pay in person please inquire for terms. All other questions please ask thanks.?\'s please ask.
