D. 1883. Hardcover. Complete with 425 pgs. Measures 8.5” x 6\" x 1-1/2\". Lightly illustrated. This book contains detailed information that would have been valued by a young Victorian woman as she sets out on lifes path into the world of courtship, marriage, household setup, and efficiency. It covers etiquette, how to act accordingly, treat ailments, cook meals, treat poisoning, make household items, choose and handle the pets, and stock, etc. Content chapters titled: Etiquette, Household, Domestic Pets, Poultry, Medicinal, Poisons and Antidotes, Medicinal Table. Breakdown: visiting, courtship, obligations, correspondence, wedding, amusement, manners, toilette, household, cooking, recipes, butchering, serving, parties, various domestic pets, (canaries, parrots, squirrel, nightingales, raising a variety of poultry, diseases and remedies of, treating family medical issues, recipes for mixing remedies, making household items, like shampoo, etc. And a section on poisons and antidotes. Stamped brown cloth cover w/black and gilt titles. Book is in good overall condition with lite expected age/handling wear. Spine and boards intact. Back hinged cracked but still holding. Corners, some of the edges are rubbed, bumped. Title gilt is faded. Back board rubs and scuffs. Names wrote inside the front cover. Pages are in good condition overall with no major damage or repairs. Some age toning, a brown spot here and there, but still supple and easily thumbed. No markings, tears. A wonderful antique book, interesting reading, for reference or collection.
