CIRCA 1890This book offers a wide variety of excitement and adventure. There is bull-fighting and bull-hunting in Spain. It includes accounts of George Simpson\'s journey across the American frontier; sites of the Rocky Mountains, descriptions of the Indians and the excitement of buffalo hunting. It includes excerpts from Mr. G.M. Lewis\'s 1833 account of the plantation and slaves he owned in Jamaica. Captain Basil Hall describes his fishing days and the chase of his little French privateer in the Irish Channel. A narrative is given on seal hunting among the Greenlanders. Mr. Rogers gives a little story about his time in Italy, and the old Cardinal and his cats. 35 pages are devoted to traveling in Damascus. Thomas Milner describes various \'spectral illusions\' in different parts of the world. Going back to Italy, the reader learns what encounters with the Italian Banditti were like. Then a brief account of the Spanish robber Polinario is given. Emigrant gold-diggers in Australia receive some attention, and Mr. Borrow\'s relates his experiences in Spain. Scoresby the Whaler shows the perils of whaling in the late 1700\'s, and lastly there is an account of Circa 124 years old! and in solid Good condition. A rare book - no editor or copyright date given, but several other copies are dated 1890. Spine faded and spine cloth chipped along bottom front edge of spine as pictured. Rubbing to lettering on front board. Inside, very nice. Attractive gold floral endpapers. All pages present, tightly bound and very clean. No writing or marks. The book is incredibly well-illustrated, approximately 60 engraved plates, and even more within text and chapter header and tail illustrations.
