This 1894 medal is a souvenir of the California Midwinter Exposition, held in San Francisco\'s Golden Gate Park. This major event was international in scope and often is referred to as a world\'s fair although it was not officially so. The pictorial obverse features a detailed design similar to the historical Coat of Arms of the state of California, with the word EUREKA above the image. The reverse has the exposition name and city, the date 1894, the word SOUVENIR, and, along the edge, the phraseTHE LAND OF SUNSHINE FRUIT AND FLOWERS. There is a small, shallow indention at the top of the obverse, an attempt to hole this medal for use as a fob. There is no mark for manufacturer or metal content, but the composition most likely is brass. This item measures approximately 34 mm (1-5/16\") in diameter.

The item is in very fine condition - and is as seen in the photos, which serve as part of the description. There is light wear and toning, and the item remains fairly bright, with some of the original bright brass surface remaining. This is a quite attractive item!
