Description:We are pleased to offer this 18thCentury Burmese Buddha head, from the Shan Tribe. Exquisitely crafted of drylacquer (many layers of hempcloth soaked withlacquer and shaped, with surfacedetails rendered with a mixture oflacquer, sawdust, powdered stone, andother materials), this piece is a symbolic and spiritual representation of theenlightened one’s wisdom and knowledge. Buddha’s serene expression isexemplified by the golden gilt. His hair has been crafted of a similarcomposite as the dry lacquer, and is adorned with an ushnisha, which representsillumination. Some restoration to Buddha’s lower right ear and internal neckcavity has occurred. A custom-built stand accompanies this must-have piece!
