Demel cafe is one of the main reasons Vienna is known as Europe’s pastry capital. The history of Demel, as it’s more commonly known, goes back 200 years when it was the official confectionery of Emperor Franz Josef. The former meeting point for the old royal high society, Demel still serves up luxurious treats playing the opulent, pomp and fancy card to the hilt. Generations pass down piece. Was part of fathers collection inherited by my family. Signature on bottom is engraved into the cup or into the metal before the cup was made. You Can feel indentations over the handwriting. Nice conversation piece everyone talks about it when they see its rarity and then signature on bottom, plus the miniature standing coat of arms stamp with the words AUSTRIA BERNDORF circling a bear.
