Double Dutch PurseFrame

A fine antique Dutch purse frame of heavy cast silver in a figural motif. The double-hinged frame would have held a hidden inner pouch inside the main purse section. There is a bit of wear to the design which makes it hard to see exactly what the figures are doing. Thedesign is on the outward-facing halves of theframe, with plain backs. This amazing purse frame is really heavy and beautifully made, and amazingly sound after 250 years....proof of fine workmanship. The clasp-lock mechanism is really clever and still very functional. I wasn\'t able to identify the maker; the initial marks are worn down and hard to make out. I was able to trace the piece to Amsterdam, the year either 1754 or 1759 given the date letter \"u.\" It is 253 grams of solid silver (2ndstandard, .875). All four frame pieces are hallmarked. An amazingitem for the serious collector.

Excellent working condition, hinges and clasps work smoothly and securely. 250+ years worth of normal wear shown on ring, on pattern, edges and knobs. A few small dings and some remaining tarnish.

5 1/4\" high, 6\" across. Weighs 8.9 ounces or 253 grams.
