Circa 1900 to 1920 a very high quality Aneroid (Holosteric) Barometer, presented in beautiful condition and working order.
Lovely quality gilt brass skeleton movement, brass pointer, blued steel indicator with moon terminal, black on white painted metal dial, under thick bevelled glass within a brass bezel held with small brass screws. Set in a highly polished solid mahogany surround with brass hanging ring.
Written to base of dial \'Dirk Hutter, opticien, Amsterdam.\' who would have been the retailer. Small stamp to back EnGee with a Stork symbol, the manufacturer (possibly German) and the numbers 6163 stamped into the wood.
This is in great condition, some tarnishing to the bezel and hanging ring from age, and a fine hairline to the wood from drying. Lovely antique patination to the wood, the glass is clear and undamaged, and the movement bright and shiney. Four small holes to the surround which may have once held some other decoration long since removed.
This is in working order but a service is recommended and the altitude set if to be used for forecasting.
This is by far the nicest barometer I have had in my collection and the new owner will not be disappointed.
