This is a magnificent piece crafted by the Virginia Metalcrafters company, dating back to the 1950\'s. It is numbered 7-11 on the back, and has the makers mark clearly on the back of the stand, and the underside of the inkwell lid. The design is very ornate in a Rococo Revival scrolled frame design. There is a butterfly design worked into the metal of the stand and the glass bottle lid. The piece is absolutely beautiful, and presents in excellent condition. I see no flaws whatsoever, despite its age. The Virginia Metalcrafters company was founded in 1890 by William Loth, and operated for 115 years. By the mid 1900\'s the company was known to be the worlds finest maker of brass works. This company was held with such high regard for their superior products that they were commissioned to make reproductions for the Smithsonian, Colonial Williamsburg, and the White House. They were also called upon to make presentation boxes for world leaders. They were specifically known for their exquisite attention to detail, and meticulous craftsmanship. This piece is certainly no exception. It weighs just about 2 pounds, and the scrolled stand measures 8 and a 1/2 in long by 4 and a 1/2 in wide at the largest point. On one side, it stands 2 in, and the opposite side, stands 1 in. The glass ink well stands 2 and 3/4 in with the lid on, and there is a 2 in square cut out in the brass stand where the well sits. This is a special piece, it has a distinct sense of character and sophistication. Its beauty and superior craftsmanship make it very desirable. I am sure collectors and enthusiasts would love to own a piece such as this one. The superior condition of this brass works adds even more of a desirability aspect to it.
