Evocative black and white photograph of a young Native American Indian. I was very drawn to it on many levels. His gaze looks a little placid. His clothes are magnificent. I suspect he is from a Plains Indian tribe from Montana, Idaho, Oregon or Washington state area. What struck me most were his abalone earrings. I understand that the Indians traded for these along the Columbia River area. I believe the original photograph was taken in the early part of the 20th century. I believe this print was made about 1980s because the KODAK paper reads on the backside, \"THIS PAPER MANUFACTURED BY KODAK\" on three lines. That stamp was used from 1972 through the 1980s. It is not a digital reproduction that came off a laser printer. I suspect a photo negative was made from an original printed photograph. The image is quite large, it measures 12.25 inches by 19 1/8 inches. It is in a temporary black matte right now that measures18 inches by24 inches. The condition of the photograph is very good. There is a about a 5 inch strip of tape that attaches the margin edge of the photo on the back to the matte. The photo is not mounted.
