There is nothing like the soft, romantic glow of candles on a Christmas tree. The warm yellow light and the absolute silence of the spectators viewing this old fashioned phenomena for the first time, is striking. The Victorians, who used candle clips like this when lighting their Christmas trees with candles, always kept a bucket full of water with some rags soaking in the water, next to the tree. The Victorians also cut their trees the day before using them, so they were green and fresh. That being said, these are being sold for DECORATION ONLY and they are intended as collectible antiques and not for use. If you misuse these, we are not responsible for any damages which arise, and the buyer acknowledges and agrees to this by buying the candle clips. Martin Luther is (wrongly) credited with introducing the use of Christmas trees with candle light in Germany. Supposedly as he was walking home on cold, starlit winter night during the Chrismtas season, the idea of putting candles on a Christmas tree to mimic the stars came to him and he went home cut a small evergreen tree, decorated his tree with fruit, nuts, gifts and candles and the neighbors copied the idea which then swept through Germany. Actually the idea of Chrismas trees began over a hundred years sooner, and apparently started in one of the Baltic countries, most likely in Riga, Latvia. The miners in the Ohr Mountains began to make \"light pyramids\" of bundles of sticks decorated with candles and the idea of the Christmas tree spread through Germany. MERRY Christmas! Karen K. #I
