7 vols, 8° (283 x 212mm). 40 chromolithographs and 194 lithographs, some with printed tissue-guards, 16 maps, 5 bound-in facsimiles of declarations, and illustrations throughout. Publisher\'s original illustrated cloth, blocked in gilt and white, green endpapers (some joints splitting, spine heads and tails chipped, extremities rubbed, some endpapers loose).

FIRST EDITION. The impact of the war of 1812 on Russia and its people was exceeded only by that of the Second World War, or \'Great Patriotic War\', over a century later. The name of the latter was a conscious reference to its famous predecessor, with the aim of stirring up nationalism in the Russian people in aid of the war effort.

Patriotic War and the Russian Society 1812–1912

The victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 was one of the most important events in Russian history of the 19th century. It involved the growth of national consciousness, the rise of the international prestige of our country and the radical change in European politics. The campaigns of 1812, 1813 and 1814 years ended in a triumphal march of the Russian army through the streets of Paris.

The Russian troops\' victory over Napoleon\'s army in 1812 had a significant impact on the Russian national self-consciousness. After the Time of Troubles in the 17th century, Patriotic War of 1812 actually became the second stage of civil unity formation in Russia.. Its participants began to comprehend their first experience in a deeply emotionally and often in poetic form. Philosophical and sociological comprehension of the underlying issues of this war evolved gradually. Since the Napoleon\'s army initially had obvious advantage, the main issue was the comprehension of why Russia won the war and what were the origins and foundation of this victory. Based on the analysis of a number of philosophical and military and historical works, I come to the conclusion Russia won as a civilization as a whole, being able to mobilize resources of various natures in an unprecedented degree.
