This sale is for one piece of original comic art by the artist Larry Whittington - I am listing several pieces by him so if this is of interest please look at my other sales. There is a fairly detailed biography below written by the great comic strip aficionado Alex Jay. Whittington\'s originals are rare with only a few known in collections. I was told a long time ago that after Whittington\'s premature death ( he was hit by a car) most of his art was thrown out.This is a mid to late 1920s strip most likely for Maizie The Model - it measures 19 by 7 inches and has some light wear. There is a stain at upper left corner. This was probably done between 1925 and 1930. The model is once again on the job hunt and beats her prospective boss with her umbrella. It is signed by Whittington in the last panel.
Carl Lawrence “Larry” Whittington was born in West Virginia around 1903 according to most census records and death information.
Whittington left the World to produce Mazie the Model for the New York Mirror. The strip saw print from May 25, 1925 to April 14, 1928.
According to the 1940 census, Whittington and his mother, a widow, resided at the same address, 4314 214th Place, Queens, New York, as his brother-in-law, Walter. Whittington’s occupation was artist in the art industry.

On occasion, news about Marjorie would also mention her brother as a cartoonist of the Evening World.
