Thisis for volumes 1 and 2 of The Birds of California: AComplete, Scientific and Popular Account of the 580 Species andSubspecies of Birds Found in the Stateby William Leon Dawson. This is the Patrons\' Edition, De Luxe with aforward copy page that has a printed notation for a limited editionand number number 5 has has been written in both volumes. Volume 1also has printed “This edition comprises the first choice ofselected sheets from the first impressions of the formatde luxe of \'The Birdsof California;\' and its circulation is limited to an approvedclientele of 250 names”. They were published by the South Moulton Company of San Diego, LosAngeles, San Francisco in 1923. Each volume measures about 123/4”x10 1/4”x2 1/2”. Volume 1 is all leather bound with goldlettering, reverse embossed with birds on the spine. Volume 1 has ahigh relief sculpture of a bird attached and 5 high relief “feet”attached to the back. I have been unable to find any other copieswith this feature. Volume 2 is quarter bound leather. There areex-libris stickers from a previous owner inside the front covers.They are heavily illustrated in black and white and some color. Volume 1 has pages 1 through 522. Volume 2 has pages 524 through1034. They are in very good condition. I am separately butconcurrently saleing volumes 3 and 4 of the Trade SouvenirEdition.
