This is a stylish vintage sterling silver cigarette case as pictured.

The case has an attractive engine turned striped exterior decoration on the front and rear covers plus the benefit of a vacant cartouche front centre.

There is an inscription on the inside rear front cover:-

\"Famagusta Club / Tennis Doubles / 1925 / G F Wilson / Presented By / His Excellency Sir M. Stevenson K.C.M.G.\"

Sir Malcolm Stevenson KCMG (15 March 1878 – 27 November 1927) was a British colonial administrator. He served as the Governor of Cyprus and later as the Governor of the Seychelles.

Famagusta Tennis Club (FTC) was established in Cyprus during 1925

The original elastic cigarette retainers are still present inside the case but these will probably need to be replaced before long if you intend to use the case as originally intended. The easiest way to achieve this would be to swap a couple of new retainers over from a cheap modern metal case.

The case measures approximately 3.25\" tall by 2.25\" wide and is about 12mm deep at the widest point (measured across the centre of the top edge).

It has been assayed in Chester during 1924 and it weighs 2.18 imperial ounces which is 1.99 troy ounces or 61.9 grams.

The case has a few signs of age and use as you might expect. There are a few stubbon spots of tarnish that will come off with a sustained polish. There are a few light, faint scuffs and minor blemishes around the bodywork plus a couple of shallow age related edge impact type dents / creases but nothing really nasty or serious. The case closes firmly with a click and opens easily when the clasp is fully depressed. The inner gilt wash is faded but still visible. A good polish all over will no doubt restore former glory

I often get asked if modern king size cigarettes fit these old cases and the answer is no - they are too big. These days the cases are more often used for keeping hand rolled cigarettes, or \"roll-ups\" and they are also used by people for carrying small business cards, tablets, condoms etc. Credit cards will not fit into this sized case.
