Offered here is a circa 1930s Navaho weaving that measures 4 feet 8inches long by 2 foot 10 incheswide or 56” x 34”. It is attributed tothe Crystal Trading Post weaving area and is in excellent condition. It was hand-woven by an expert weaver on aprimitive upright loom of all Native hand-shorn, hand-carded and tightly handspunMerino quality sheep wool, both weft & warp. This nice old weaving has 2 columns ofserrated concentric diamonds on the beautiful hand carded brownish gray field. Four small white diamonds float down themiddle. Side borders are a fine sawtooth motif in black and white.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile ona rug hunt here in New Mexicojust to offer you here on . It has atight, even weft count averaging 22 per inch and a warp count of 7 perinch. The selvage cords are all inoriginal, excellent condition. Warpselvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners are all four tight, original andin excellent condition. The tassels are all four original and excellentcondition. It has not been cleaned, isfairly clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. There is a faint lighter spot in brownish greyfield that measures about 5” x 6”. Itlooks worse in the photo that it does is person. Both sides are shown in photos above. Colors are excellent in this piece of oldAmerican Indian art and they are: handcarded & blended natural brownish grey, ivory white & black.
