1930s Gumnut Babies Bedding Set - Very Rare Original 1920s May Gibbs Fabric:

This rare early 20th century bedding set includes a twin sized bedspread, bedskirt, and pillow sham. The multicolor print on dark cream cotton features rosy-cheeked Gumnut Babies frolicking in the branches of a gum tree with kookaburras, wattle blossoms, insects, fairywrens and nestlings. So authentically Australian! There\'s even a matching-contrasting border fabric on the bedskirt and the pillow trim! Pillow and bedspread are bias-bound in a soft tan. The spread is lined with cream muslin. Just too cute for words! It\'s clean and odor free. The condition is very good. The fabric is strong and in great overall shape. There are a couple issues: some of the colors appear to be a wee bit faded - mainly on one side of the bedskirt border. But the set has less fading than one would expect for printed bedding fabric of this age. There are a few small stains on the top side of the bedspread which are pictured. The stains are visible, but they\'re camouFlaged a bit due to the contrasts in the printed pattern. There are also a few very tiny discolorations and a faint 2.5\" pen mark on the underside muslin lining of the bedspread.
This bedding set was likely made in the early 1930s from original Turnbull & Stockdale or Lockett & Crossland \"Gumnut Babies\" roller printed furnishing fabric, design by May Gibbs, manufactured 1926-1929(Victoria & Albert museum archive source:[link removed by ]). This very rare treasure is sure to delight Gumnut Babies collectors or vintage fabric collectors alike!It would make a charming vintage addition to your bush fairy themed nursery or child\'s bedroom.
