If you love the Art Deco period, you know about the great colonial world\'s fair held in Paris in 1931. For this \"Exposition Coloniale Internationale\" there were four special medals prepared for each of the basic areas around the globe--America, Africa, Oceana, and Asia. This one from America is the most valued.

The face has a wonderful depiction of an Indian in full head dress. It was made by Lucien Bazor, one of the great deco medalists. The obverse indicates that this was prepared for the 1931 expo, and includes a representation of typical colonial American buildings. With a diameter of 32 mm, this medal weighs about 19 grams. Lucien BAZOR was born in 1889. He studied with his father and at Paris\' School of Fine Arts (École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts). In 1923, he won First Prize for his medal sculpting at Rome. Beginning in 1931, he was the head engraver at the Monnaie in Paris.
