Ticket of the 4th OZET lottery 1932. OZET (1925-1938) was a mass Soviet organization that sought to improve the socio-economic difficulties of disenfranchised Russian Jews by resettling them from the shtetls to agricultural communes on the land provided by the State. The best known OZET-sponsored project was the creations of the Jewish National Region around Biroofferjan in the Russian Far East, but it was preceded by a smaller projects in Ukraine, Belarus, and Crimea. At its height in the 1930s, OZET membership had reached 300,000 members. In addition to membership dues, OZET relied on donations from abroad (American JOINT alne had contributed $25 millions), and raised funds through lotteries (held five times between 1928 and 1933). Overall, OZET had sponsored the resttlement of 126,000 Jews to the new communes; of those, about 50,000 had stayed on the land.
