1932 World Series Game UsedAnd SignedBaseball Possibly from Babe Ruth’s “Called Shot” Game

Offered is an exceptional autographed baseball, one which likely derives from the game of one of the greatest moments in World Series history, the Babe Ruth “Called Shot” game of the 1932 World Series. The ball is signed by legendary manager John McGraw and the umpiring crew of that particular World Series.

The 1932 baseball season was the last hurrah for the Ruth and Lou Gehrig led New York Yankees. After representing the American League in the World Series for 1926-1928, they weretoppled from their lofty perch by the powerful Philadelphia Athleticsfor 1929-1931. However, in 1932the Yankeesrode Ruth’s 47 home runs and 137 RBIs, Gehrig’s 34 HRs and 151 RBIs and Lefty Gomez’ 24 victories to107 wins and a 13 game margin over those same Athletics.

Facing the Chicago Cubs in the World Series, the powerful Yankees swept the Cubs four straight, bashing eight home runs in the four games, three by Gehrig and two by Ruth. The only excitement of the Series came in Game 3, a game which saw both Ruth and Gehrig belt two home runs each.

However, the two teams had been trading barbs all Series long and Ruth was in the middle of it. After already belting a homer and getting two strikes on him during his 5thinning at bat, he was getting razzed by Cubs fans, and supposedly pointed to the center field bleachers, and proceeded to hit the next pitch right where he pointed.

It was one of the most dramatic World Series moments, performed by the greatest sports athlete of all time!

This ball is likely from that game. The official National LeagueHeydlerball has very nice game use, and has been autographed by all four umpires for the Series plus legendary Hall of Fame manager John McGraw. The National League balls were used in Chicago during games 3 and 4, and McGraw was present during that game as a representative of the Christy Walsh Syndicate.Various images from that Series show McGraw, the legendary player agent Walsh and others on the field before the games.

A John McGraw signed ball is exceedingly rare, as McGraw wasa toughsigner and died two years(in 1934)later at a relatively young age. The four umpire signatures includeHOFerBillKlem, plus BillDinneen,Roy VanGraflan, andGeorgeMagerkurth. While he was a great umpire,Dinneenalso was apitcherand hero of the first World Series, winning three gameson the moundfor theBoston Red Soxin1903.

For the last 80 yearsthis baseballwas a part of the legendaryHelms Athletic Foundation Museumin Culver City, CA.Many unique sports items were donated to the museum, which opened in1932;with this ball surely one of the prized early additions.

This legendary ball has the signatures authenticated by PSA/DNA,and with all the characteristics of a game used ball fromthe 1932 World Series, likely from one of the classic World Series games of all time….the Babe Ruth Called Shot.
