Parade Antiques and Collectables 1937 Sterling Silver Grenadier Guards Cigarette Case by Asprey A beautifully made Sterling silver (925) cigarette case made by the renowned silversmiths to the Royal Family Asprey & Co., and presented to John Rodney Bastard, of the Grenadier Guards. The heavy cigarette case is rectangular in shape and is adorned with machined engraved decoration and gold bevelled edge. It is finished with an enamelled badge of the Grenadier Guards, comprising the letters GRRG underneath the King’s crown. The case opens by an Asprey patented mechanism, where the top cover of the case slides upwards, before releasing the catch that allows it to open. The inside is gilded and the silver is hallmarked by the London Assay Office, with the date stamp 1937. The maker’s mark is A&Co Ltd and ASPREY LONDON. The inside is also stamped ASPREY’S PATENT No. 21914 and engraved ‘Durl - Feb. 14th 1942’ (Valentine’s Day, but also his birthday).Condition is very good to the case, but there is slight damage to the enamels on the badge. However, this does not detract from the beauty and quality of the piece.
