Each week I bring you vintage early radio items. I have been collecting radios, phonographs, and music boxes for over 40 years and always have something interesting available. Here up foroffer is this 1938 art deco bakelite Emerson radio receiver, with pushbutton only tuning, no tuning dial or numbers, just six pushbuttons that can be preset with the small knobs under each pushbutton. This allows you to pre tune six stations you can flick through with the pushbuttons. This idea was too confusing to most people and never caught on, and only a few were sold. The model is BE-198, advertised as the \" Mystery \" radio. The bakelite case looks excellent, and has no cracks or chips. The chassis is clean and complete. The filter caps were changed and the radio plays and gets stations clearly and with good volume on most of the presets when plugged in and an antenna wire is used.This is a very hard to find Emerson radio that should be in a museum.
