An awesome piece of World War II military history - the heart shield Bible! Front steel cover says \"To my dear Boy\". This one is \"The Catholic\'s Prayer Book - A Manual of Prayers and Devotional Exercises, compiled from approved sources - Whitman Publishing Co., Racine, Wis.\"
\"Heart-Shield Bible Fits Snugly in Uniform Pocket - The Engraved Gold-Plated Steel Front Cover Protects His Heart Copyright 1943 U.S.A.\" The inside front card says \"The Shield and Prayer Book - Presented to P.F.C. John a. Combs Jr 37394969 From Lois Vivian Combs. Know Your Bible Company, 317 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A. (Patent Pending).\" Front cover is 4.75\" x 3\" and there are 287 pages. See photos. Front steel cover very worn and scratched, and loose from binding at bottom 1.5\" and worn at binding the rest of the way up. Binding has been taped and it has held well. Pages are yellowed and first several show some edge wear, folds, and a few slight tears. I found no writing or marks in the book. Back cover is heavy cardboard/leather look and shows wear and scratches.
