DESCRIPTION ... This unique UCAGCO big mouth frogsmoker ashtraymeasures3 1/4\" tall, and 4\" wide tip ofknee to tip of knee, and 3\" inches in depth. It is a mottled brown frogwithbigopen mouth with gold gilt lips, and big gold gilteyes. He has a big openmouth. He is called a smoker ashtray because it takes smoke to make itwork. You place your lite cigarette in his mouth and rest it on his lower lip,(the holder). The smoke comes out over his upper lip making him, a smoking hotFroggy. I do not think he has ever been used as an ashtray. No chips, nocracks, no repairs, with little to no wear on the gold gilt.He islikehe left the factory60 years ago.It is marked onthebottom, under the glaze, inred letters MADE IN OCCUPIEDJAPAN. There is also the UCAGCO logo with a U, C, and G inside each other. (seephoto)Cute Froggyashtray, making thisawonderfuladdition for any collection.
History of Occupied Japan Collectibles:
One half of all items produced in Japan after World War II from late 1945 until early 1952 for export to the U.S. and elsewhere in the world, were required by law to be marked with the words “Occupied Japan”, or “Made in Occupied Japan”in some form. This law was introduced by General Douglas MacArthur as a way to help the American people and other Countries accept and purchase imports from the spurned and defeated nation of Japan. This would allow the Japanese people to gain a grip on their economic recovery. Other than the distinct hallmark, there is little proof to authenticate an item from the period. These items are dated by their hallmark, limited in quantity, and will never be produced again.©2008
