Originally published in French under the title L\'Existentialisme est un Humanisme in 1946 this translation by Philip Mairet provides the English reader with Sartre\'s introduction to his philosophy.

This work is based on a lecture given by Sartre in 1945 at Club Maintenant. The work defines his key concept that the existence of a person is prior to his or her essence.

Translated into English by designer, writer and journalist Philip Mairet.

CONDITION

In original cloth binding and held in original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Small amount of light rubbing to the head and tail of spine. A fewlight marks to boards. Dustwrapper is preserved in aplastic wrap. Dustwrapper is smart withchipping to head and tail of flyleaf joints. Small loss to the tail of front wrap at joint to flyleaf. Age toning to the wrap edges and rubbing to both the spine and joints. Marks to wraps and a crease to the front wrap at the translator\'s name. Internally, work is firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with the odd spot throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED with a VERY GOOD dustwrapper.
