1950\'sDouglasSuper DC-3 New York - San Francisco Line Airliner by NomuraofJapan. This frictionpoweredlithographed Japanese tin airplane has a wingspan thatmeasuresabout15 1/2\" or45 cm in length.The fuselage measures about 12 1/2\" or 32 cm in length. The friction is working and spins both original metal propellers. After years of collecting Japanese tin planes, I had pretty much seen everything but a DC-3. That seemed curious because the DC-3 played such a significant role in air travel for decades but there seemed to be no Japanese toys of the plane. I finally found one on about 15 years ago and it\'s been a prize in my collection ever since. I got this duplicate last year. I don\'t know why they are so rare, but they are. These toys also appear to be the base for the later (and much easier to find) model of a DC 7 by TN that used some fanicful green colors and added a pair of engines for authenticity. They retained the tail dragger stance and added another leyer of tin to the bottom of the wing and basically created what looked more like a four engined DC 3 than a DC 7. This example shows little playwear and came from a very large collection of Japanese toys. It is complete, all original and in very good to excellent condition.
