1952 Vintage Original Leather Bikini Eames Herman Miller Rocking Chair Rare:

Fantastic, rare, all original parts Eames for Herman Miller RKR-2 in Postman\'s Bag Tan Leather.
This example was made in 1951 or 1952, before Alexander Girard had a chance to design upholstery for Herman Miller.
The \"bikini\" on this is Postman\'s Bag Tan Leather, a leather sourced and devised and named by Charles and Ray Eames.
As you can see from the original upholstery label, this example was actually made at 901 Washington Boulevard, Venice, CA, where the Eames Office itself was located.
This leather was the expensive option. Folks who couldn\'t afford the leather version, got one in tweed.
You can see why with this chair. The leather gets better with age, it develops a nice patina.
