1958 D1 Gillette toggle gold razor seized adjustment dial red dot AVG condition:
$174.50

Vintage Gillette toggle razor in gold finish with red dot above adjustment dial.

The \"D\" to the left and \"1\" to the right of the handle on the base plate indicate 1958 manufacture for this \"standard\" toggle razor.

The adjusment dial is seized -- unable to rotate it at all, and the number \"1\" is slightly offset from the red dot.

The \"three vertical bars\" \"knurling\" on the adjustment dial is also damaged in spots -- from our prior experience on objects other than this razor, the evident \"ground down\" or \"smashed\" condition of these three vertical bars in spots suggests that someone previously may have used a device with hard metal teeth, like a vise or vise-grips, to attempt to free the motion on the adjustment dial.

So, visually, this razor is not pristine in its adjutment dial \"knurling\".

PLEASE NOTE: photographs for this listing were made BEFORE a \"scrubbing bubbles\" type of soaking treatment which removed some of the \"grime\" evident in these photos (such as on the number \"1\" and within the razor\'s head) and added luster to the razor\'s finish -- unfortunately, such a soaking did not free up the adjustment dial, which remains frozen.

There is some paint loss withint the numbers on the adjustment dial -- some numbers remain completely filled in with black color, others are missing segments of black color within their engraving.

The toggle mechanism appears to work flawlessly.

The plating on the razor\'s head appears worn in spots.

We do not have enough experience with these razors to feel completely comfortable assigning a \"grade\" to this razor\'s condition, so we will vaguley label this approximately sixty year old razor in \"average\" vintage condition along a \"poor\", \"average\", \"good\", \"very good\", \"excellent\" condition scale.

Our novice understanding is that these razors can be disassembled, cleaned and mechanically restored to fully functioning condition; hopefully this is the case with this interesting, handsome and useful device.
