Victorian English 9ct gold mizpah brooch by S Ward & Sons. Decorated with two hearts, ribbon and foliate design. This object has never been monogrammed or personalised, although it does include typical text on the left heart. Which reads \"THE LORD WATCH BETWEEN ME + THEE WHEN WE ARE ABSENT ONE FROM ANOTHER\". Mizpah is Hebrew for \"watchtower\". Mentioned in the Bible it marked an agreement between two men with God as their witness. Over time Mizpah has come to describe an emotional bond between people who are seperated (either physically or by death).
