Description:We are pleased to offer this 19th C. Qing [Ching] Dynasty, Chinese, silk, embroideredpouch. Throughout East Asia, domestic accessories such as these were oftenembroidered by the women of the household with colorful, auspicious imagery.Small pieces such as these purses would have been hung from a belt to carry small personal items.Characteristics of this piece include the depiction of a rooster within nature as well as auspicious rebuses such as a book, scroll and censor; breathtaking, vibrantly-hued embroideryrendered in silk satin stitch with couchedgold metallic thread accents; decorative edgings; and differingfabrics including silk satin, brocade-woven silk, and cotton. The embroideryremains exquisite with no loose threads. Please note, this pouch does show signs of wear commensurate with ageincluding silk breakdown (due to the use of an iron mordant withinthe dying process) and light soiling.
