Description

Nice example of the fine electro silver plate by Mead & Robbins, Philadelphia c.1850-1870. Mead & Robbins was a Philadelphia partnership between John O. Mead and Harrison Robbins. Mead worked in Birmingham England from around 1835-1840s learning the new techniques of electroplate before coming to Philadelphia. Mead is considered by some to be the first successful electro silver plater in the United States. Beautifully proportioned ladle, so American in its simplicity of line and a clean design. A nice example of American silver plate before the dawn of the late Victorian aesthetic movement ornate designs. Monogram \"D\".

SIZE: About 10\" long. Bowl is about 3 3/8\" wide.

MARKS: On back of handle: Mead & Robbins and the number \"8\" (I think).

CONDITION: Antique item. Faint heel wear line on back of bowl. Very minor. Please see photo below.
