DESCRIPTION
An antique Cast Iron Stove Top Waffle Iron with Pennsylvania German handpainted Tulips Heart & Distelfink Decorations. Thewaffle iron is from the 1880\'s and the hand painted decoration is circa1920\'s.
Delightful early Pennsylvania Dutchdecoration of Tulips, Distelfink Birds and Hearts cover both sides of the waffleiron and surround the entire base ring that the waffle iron rests upon. The charminglittle birds look up to the little hearts that are painted within each ofthe raised cast iron decorations on both sides of the waffle iron.Each of the distelfinks rest upon Tulip Trees covered with berries ... just charming! The paint decoration is quite old, evidenced by the wear around the painted surface ... the paint finish has worn away here and there with use and a little rust developing over the many years of use that this has seen.
The base ring is marked with a number7 & 8 to either side of the handle, perhaps the year that it was patented. The base ring is separate from the iron and has slots that the waffle iron rest within. Theinterior of the waffle iron is also quite charming with little hearts, diamonds,crosses and circles that would be left on your waffle ... so cheery and sweet!
Very heavy weighs 7-pounds.
No makers mark but the pattern to the surface is that made by the A J Cox Company of Philadelphia and was perhaps an early prototype since this one is unmarked.
This waffle iron would make a 6-1/2\"waffle.
