This is a very rare opportunity to acquire the first four printings of the BOOK OF MORMON [Palmyra-1830 , Kirtland - 1837, Nauvoo - 1840, Liverpool - 1841]--along with the first edition PEARL OF GREAT PRICE [1851] and the firstedition of the Inspired Translation of the BIBLE by Joseph Smith [1867].


First Edition BOOK OF MORMON [1830]


The Book of Mormon: an account written by the hand of Mormon, upon plates taken from the plates of Nephi. [18 lines] By Joseph Smith, junior, author and proprietor. Palmyra: Printed by E. B. Grandin, for the author. 1830. iv[5]-588 [2] pp. 18.5 cm.


This is a very good copy of the Book of Mormon. The text, title page and binding are all original.Last month in New York a firstedition Book of Mormon sold at sale for $100,000.

In 1829, Joseph Smith made plans to print the Book of Mormon. He contacted a local newspaper publisher and bookstoreowner in Palmyra, New York named E. B. Grandin. Mr. Grandin agreed to print 5,000 copies for $3,000. Martin Harris, a friend of Joseph Smith, mortgaged his farm to acquire the funds for the printing of the Book of Mormon.


The 1830 first edition Book of Mormon was originally bound in brown calf, plain except for the seven double bands in gilt on the spine with a black leather label stamped in gilt with \"BOOK OF MORMON\". The end sheets are of the same paper as the text. The copyright notice appears on the verso of the title page. A preface (pp. [iii]-iv) explains the loss of the initial 116 pages of manuscript and the revelation of Joseph Smith not to retranslate that part but to begin with the plates of Nephi. Only the 1830 edition has this preface. Pages 5-588 contain the main text, and the testimonies of the three and of the eight witnesses occur on both sides of the leaffollowing page 588. (Crawley, A Descriptive Bibliography of the Mormon Church, Vol. 1 pg. 31). Of the original 5,000 copies, as few as 500 have survived.

This is a very clean copy. All text and the title pages are original. The book has been rebound in a period-style full leather cover.

This is a beautiful full leather copy of this Liverpool printingofthe Book of Mormon. The binding, text and title page are all original and in excellentcondition.

Complete with all three plates, including a three-part folding plate. Some minor foxing. Overall, very good copy with no writing. Very scarce. The Pearl of Great Price is considered one of the four standard works of the Mormon Church. The others being The Book of Mormon, The Holy Bible and Doctrine and Covenants. Hardcover. 917, 286 pp. Thick duodecimo [18 cm] Original leather cover with brass clasp. Raised bands. Very good. The covers are lightly rubbed. The book is very sturdy. Previous owner\'s name and a few notes in pencil. The New Testament is included under the title of: \"The Holy Scriptures of the New Testament, translatedand corrected by the spirit of revelation, Joseph Smith, Jr., the Seer.\" Flake: 453. Joseph Smith worked on his translation of the scriptures during the 1830Â’s. With his death in 1844, the manuscript passed to his wife and it was not published until 1867.
