1st Year Carol Day Original Comic Art 241 - Paris - Jazz - David Wright :
$338.00

Carol Day David Wright had a facility for drawing women that quickly caught the eye of both agents and clients, so the man who had aspired to be a technical illustrator, by the outbreak of World War II became Great Britain\'s foremost pin-up artist. His pictures of beautiful women came to be called “lovelies” and were an immensely popular feature of \"The Sketch\". He later became highly sought after fashion illustrator and then comic artist........................... Wright\'s brilliance at drawing and storytelling art permeates every frame of Carol Day, his comic strip masterpiece featured in The Daily Mail, which he worked on until his passing in 1967. He would pencil just enough to establish the positions of his characters, then go directly into the art with a #2 sable brush. When this was finished, he would begin the process of building the complex and varied layers of ink textures and cross hatching that described the final image in a sort of visual tone feast. Prior to the last 2 years of the strip, he eschewed the American comics method of glued down zipatone in favor of hand creating these rich surface is simply the best Carol Day art I\'ve offered in years. It\'s a beautiful mid-story daily from theParis Episodestory, about Carol\'s involvement with young jazz musician Mark Lovell, brother of roommate Nora Lovell. David Wright was a huge jazz fan, so this was a very personal story to him. The art was published June 20, 1957, so it\'s both an early piece and one from a seldom offered story. The art features Carol and Mark Lovell in the first 2 panels, in front of Wright\'s \"wall of heroes\", as he called it. The final panel features Nora Lovell in bed and a full on cross hatch portrait of Carol--stunning. As with all Carol Days, this art is drawn on illustration board. There is some minor white out use in the piece (primarily in word balloons), some minor border smudging and impact dents in two corners (see scans). But other than that the art is in top and handling with the USA is $11 and shipping to Great Britain and Europe is $24.00 for First Class (no tracking) or $45.00 for Global Priority (with tracking). My apologies for the high price for Global Priority, but costs have risen significantly over the past months. And I\'ve gotten a lot of good response about packaging. To my mind, artwork should be shipped with respect. So included in the shipping cost: each piece of art is first sealed in a waterproof bag, then secured to $2.25 worth of reinforced cardboard bound by professional packing tape..................Payment is to be made within 7 days of the conclusion of the sale....Good luck offerding!
