This 2012 Mayan prophecy medallion is an ornate replica of the mystic Mayan calendar that some believe will mark the end of mankind's current history and thebeginning of a new dawn.
According to the 2012 Mayan Prophecy legend, the Mayan civilization developed their long count calendar to mark the end of the great life cycle and the beginning of a new era in man's cosmic journey. The Mayans are said to believe that their calendar not only marked time but predicted the evolution of the human race. The Mayan's current life cycle started in 3,000 B.C. and ends on the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2012.
The obverse of the coin displays a sacred Mayan temple above the 2012 "prophecy" which reads:
"The day the sun aligns with the galaxy’s center. The day the fourth world passes and the fifth is born. The day evolution stops and mankind’s new dawn arises. The day over 5,000 years of history – the Great Cycle – ends."
The reverse of the coin shows the intricate Mayan calendar created around the Mayan sun god Tonatiuh.
Minted in deep relief using a special "splash minting" process, this 2012 Mayan Prophecy coin is struck and finished in antique bronze.
