My Dear Sister,

I have just written to Uncle Jefferson Strong and who deserves the next one more than you though I have not had a letter from you in a long time.

Well, Vickie, the holidays are all over and we are moving along as usual. I shall never forget the happy times I have had in Vicksburg this winter.

This is Sunday and the bells are ringing for church in every direction. Vickie, I am feeling very bad about my girl having to be banished from here for leaving church while the minister was praying for the President and his cabinet. I can tell you they looked sheepish when they left. They said if the damned yankees wished to put them through the lines for that they could go to hell.

Have you herd from Henry since the late battle? You asked me if I had heard from Willie. I have not heard from any of the boys in a long time.

What is the reason you do not write oftener? Have the stamps played out or the paper?

Well, I can’t think of a thing to write about unless it is my sweet heart and I guess it will be the best policy to close.

Please write immediately and except this from your brother.

Isaac Bishop
