3pc Lot Antique Bisque Galluba Hoffman Dresden Lace Piano Baby Child Figurines:

Presented here for your offerding consideration is this lot of miniature antique German bisque piano baby type doll figurines by the renowned firm of Galluba and Hoffman! Each little figure measures between a mere 3\" and 4 1/4\" tall. They all have incised numbers on the bases, but the seated girl has the addition of the impressed Galluba and Hoffman mark used between 1897 and 1910. The group was acquired altogether, and though only one of them bares the G & H mark, one can see the obvious similarities of their manufacture--their detailed modeling and unmistakable painting of the eyes, with heavy lids and red eyelid liner, for example.

These rare child figurines have applied draped lace--a technique that has come to be termed Dresden lace by many collectors. As is often the case, the delicate lace has chipped off to a large extent on each of the pieces. Each has born a little bit of damage, which I shall point out in detail.

Starting with the seated girl, she measures 3\" tall. It is lovely that all of her tiny digits have been unharmed, but the flowers adorning her hair have chipped petals and leaves. The yellow stamen from the flower on the right is missing. Just a bit over half of the lace has broken off her skirt, and there is some missing from her collar, both front and back.

The darling little girl standing with her black umbrella also measures 3\". The pretty lace bow at her neckline, and the ruffles of lace that frame her face have remained intact, but a good portion of the lace at the hemline of her dress has broken off about three quarters of the way around. Also, there is an area of yellowed glue on her left elbow that was evidently meant to repair her by way of gluing lace back into place, but I think the restoration does more harm than good, since the glue has become discolored.

The young man of 4 1/4\" with his water bucket actually has a piece of real lace glued onto the front of his billowing shirt. Ingenious, except that the telltale glue has yellowed! You can see areas of missing lace from his left sleeve and the back of his shirt. Also, it appears that his head may have been broken off and glued back on. As well, he holds something brown, like a staff or umbrella handle, in his left hand that is broken off just below his fist.

This tiny group of fairy like sprites does have damage, but their whimsical nature and impressive pedigree make them desirable nonetheless. Well worth the low opening offer of only $9.99!
